This meeting was held during Asia's largest IT exhibition, 'Computex 2025', and NVIDIA's cloud partner event, 'NPC Summit', and the discussion on 'Sovereign AI' cooperation, which combines Naver's AI strategy and NVIDIA's infrastructure, emerged as a key agenda.

 

Naver executives mobilize to attack Southeast Asia AI market in earnest

Chairman Lee Hae-jin visited Taiwan with key executives, including Naver CEO Choi Soo-yeon and Naver Cloud CEO Kim Yoo-won. They reportedly met with NVIDIA executives, including CEO Jensen Huang, and discussed in-depth ways to cooperate in building ‘sovereign AI’ that suits each country’s data sovereignty, regulations, and culture in Southeast Asia and the Middle East.

 

Naver has already discussed the need for cooperation on 'Sovereign AI' with CEO Hwang at NVIDIA's headquarters in the US in June 2024, and practical consultations have continued around 10 times since then.

 

“AI Value Chain Alliance”… Combining NVIDIA GPU and Naver Cloud

In this meeting, the two companies are evaluated to have concretized various collaboration scenarios, such as an AI data center business that combines NVIDIA's GPU infrastructure and Naver Cloud's service platform, and joint development of large language models (LLMs) and applications.

 

Naver has its own ultra-large AI model, ‘HyperClova X’, and global AI full-stack capabilities, while Nvidia provides the hardware foundation through AI semiconductor supply.

 

In the big tech industry, there are few companies in Asia with as much independent AI cloud capabilities as Naver, and the synergy from the strategic alliance between the two companies is expected to be significant.

 

Expanding cooperation with local Taiwanese companies… Strengthening AI frontier leadership

In addition to Nvidia, Naver executives also met with major local IT companies such as Taiwan’s Foxconn and e-commerce company Momo to explore opportunities for AI ecosystem expansion and data center business cooperation targeting the Southeast Asian market. Naver plans to actively expand partnerships for building customized sovereign AI for each country based on its technological capabilities in all areas from data centers to cloud and AI services.

 

“AI Sovereignty Era, Global Alliance Begins in Full Swing”

Chairman Lee Hae-jin chose Taiwan as his first official overseas schedule after returning to the board of directors.

 

The industry evaluates that “Naver has embarked on a full-fledged global alliance to secure leadership in the Asian frontier in the era of AI sovereignty.” Naver also plans to accelerate its global AI and tech investment, including a visit to Silicon Valley in the U.S. next month and the establishment of a new investment corporation, ‘Naver Ventures.’
