[NewsSpace=JeongYoung Kim] Microsoft founder Bill Gates has revealed that he is currently using Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold4 and is satisfied with the product.

According to the industry on April 13, Bill Gates, chairman of the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, wrote on the social networking service LinkedIn on the 11th (local time), "My current phone is a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 4, which is a far cry from the heavy bricks I used to carry around in the early days of Microsoft."

The Galaxy Z Fold4 used by Chairman Gates is known to have been directly gifted by Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong last year. During a Reddit "Ask Me Anything" event held in January this year, he answered the question "What smartphone do you use every day?" by saying "I have a Galaxy Z Fold4 that Lee Jae-yong, Chairman of Samsung, gave me when I met him in Korea."

Chairman Gates visited Korea last year to attend the closing ceremony of the "Reinvented Toilet (RT) Project," a social contribution project that Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology has been working on since August last year. At that time, Chairman Lee Jae-yong directly gifted the latest smartphone, the Galaxy Z Fold4, to Chairman Gates.

Chairman Gates is known to be a fan of Samsung's foldable products, having previously used the Galaxy Z Fold3. The company he previously led, Microsoft, is developing a dual-screen phone with two screens instead of a foldable one. On the same day, Chairman Gates also shared an article commemorating the 50th anniversary of the birth of mobile phones, saying, "It's fascinating to look back at how much has changed since the first mobile phone call in human history." 

According to the article, the first mobile phone in human history was the DynaTAC created by Martin Cooper, a senior researcher at Motorola. He successfully made a call to the Bell Laboratories, a subsidiary of AT&T, with a prototype on April 3, 1973.

 Ten years later, in 1983, Motorola released the DynaTAC 8000X, which was nicknamed "The Brick" because of its large size, 9 inches high (22.86cm), and 2.5 pounds (1.1kg) in weight. 

The current weight of Samsung Electronics' Galaxy Z Fold4 is 263g, which is heavier than typical smartphones such as the Galaxy S23 (170g). However, compared to the mobile phones of 50 years ago, it is only a quarter of the weight. 

Samsung Electronics is planning to release its fifth foldable phone 'Galaxy Z Fold 5' in the second half of this year. This product is expected to reduce its weight (253g) by 3.8% (10g) compared to its predecessor by applying a water drop hinge instead of the existing U-shaped hinge．
