[News Space=Reporter seungwon lee] An international group of current and former speakers of parliament from 36 countries around the world, including Cambodia and Colombia, visited a demonstration site where cutting-edge water management technology innovation is taking place.

Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water, President Seok-Dae Yoon) announced on April 11 that a 12-member delegation from the Inter-Parliamentary Speakers Conference, including former Prime Minister of Pakistan and current Speaker of the Senate Yousuf Raza Gillani, visited the Water Comprehensive Situation Room at the Hangang River Basin Headquarters in Gwacheon, Gyeonggi Province.

This visit was intended to observe advanced water management technologies and strengthen international cooperation to solve global water problems caused by the climate crisis.

On this day, President Yoon Seok-dae personally welcomed the delegation and introduced the digital-based smart water management technology of the Korea Water Resources Corporation. By showcasing three major super-gap technologies and global leading technologies: ▲ Water management digital twin ▲ Artificial intelligence (AI) water purification plant ▲ Smart water network management (SWNM), he laid the foundation for expanding the existing international cooperation channel centered on the government, international organizations, and private companies to include parliamentary diplomacy channels.

In particular, the delegation directly toured the 'water management digital twin' system implemented in the water management situation room and closely examined the scientific integrated water management capabilities of the Korea Water Resources Corporation.

Water management digital twin is a next-generation integrated water management technology that implements the actual water resource environment as a digital virtual space and can analyze and predict all water management elements in the basin, such as rainfall, river water levels, and dam operation status, in real time. It enables more efficient and scientific responses by intuitively providing scenario-based analysis results in various situations where water management decisions are required, such as flood season dam operation.

Korea Water Resources Corporation is leading the world in presenting a smart water management system utilizing water management digital twins. It has already completed construction and is operating digital twins in the five major river basins, and since July of last year, it has been building a system to respond to floods in Saudi Arabia, and its potential for use in responding to climate crises in the international community is gradually increasing. This has drawn great interest and response from the delegation.

Yoon Seok-dae, president of Korea Water Resources Corporation, said, “As water issues have emerged as a key global agenda due to the climate crisis, the international community’s interest in and trust in Korea’s water management capabilities and cutting-edge technological prowess are increasing,” adding, “We will use this visit by the international parliamentary delegation as an opportunity to expand global cooperation, strengthen our leadership in the water sector, and create new opportunities for sustainable growth and future industries.”
