[News Space=Reporter seungwon lee] On April 9, Korea Water Resources Corporation (K-water) signed an agreement with Euro Invest Holding LLC, the developer of the new city development project in Khrodok, Ukraine, in Gumi, Gyeongsangbuk-do, with the main contents being smart city development.
This agreement is a follow-up measure to the MOU signed with the Horodosi local government in January of last year to specify the new city development project plan and participation method.
Horodox is a logistics hub located in the Lviv Oblast in western Ukraine, and a new city development of 57.7㎢ is planned. With this agreement, Korea Water Resources Corporation will plan to build a smart green city on 10㎢ of this land. A smart green city is a model that is environmentally friendly and sustainable, and is a complex city concept that encompasses industrial, residential, and commercial functions. In addition, Korea Water Resources Corporation plans to promote water management operations by incorporating digital-based water management solutions.
Prior to the agreement, the Horodoxi delegation that visited Korea for the Horodoxi New Town development project inspected the Gumi High-Tech Valley, which was directly developed by the Korea Water Resources Corporation. The Gumi High-Tech Valley is a complex urban development project that has been under construction since 2009, spanning approximately 9.3㎢ across Sandong-eup and Haepyeong-myeon in Gumi-si. It is centered around a cutting-edge electronic information industrial complex and has complex functions such as housing, culture, and R&D, creating a new growth engine for the national and regional economy.
The Ukrainian side is expected to demonstrate the future smart city development capabilities of Korea Water Resources Corporation, which combines industrial, residential, and commercial functions, through the Gumi High-Tech Valley, and it is expected to provide practical reference for specifying the future direction of urban development in Horodosi.
Meanwhile, as a member of 'One Team Korea' for the reconstruction of Ukraine, Korea Water Resources Corporation signed a business agreement for urban development and water management cooperation with Khrodok and Lviv Oblast in January of last year. Since then, at the 'URC 2024 (Ukraine Reconstruction Conference)' held in Berlin, Germany in June, the company has been expanding the framework for reconstruction cooperation by presenting a blueprint for a smart city and specific business plans, including financing methods, to high-ranking Ukrainian government officials, including the Deputy Speaker of the Ukrainian Parliament, the Governor of Kyiv Oblast, and the Deputy Mayor.
Ahn Jung-ho, head of the Green Infrastructure Division at Korea Water Resources Corporation, said, “Based on Korea Water Resources Corporation’s cutting-edge water management technology and experience in developing complex cities, we will strive to establish ourselves as a partner for Ukraine’s reconstruction while also serving as a bridgehead for our companies to enter the market.”
