[News Space=Reporter seungwon lee] Group New Jeans and singer Lim Young-woong took first place in the singers in their 30s and under and 40s and over, respectively, for the year 2024.
Gallup Korea conducted a three-stage survey from July to November 25, asking 5,281 people nationwide (excluding Jeju) aged 13 to 39 and 3,110 people in their 40s or older, to name up to three of their favorite Korean pop singers/groups who were active this year. Gallup Korea divided the survey into those in their 30s and younger and those in their 40s and older to compensate for the shortcomings of the low birth rate and aging population.
Among those under 30, New Jeans took first place with 25.5%. Among those over 40, Lim Young-woong took first place with 33.9%.
New Jeans rose from 5th place in their debut year (July 2022) to 1st place the following year, and even this year, despite being embroiled in issues related to their agency, they maintained the top spot for two consecutive years. The singer of the year chosen by those in their 30s and younger was IU in 2nd place (20.6%), Espa in 3rd place (13.3%), BTS in 4th place (10.7%), and Ive in 5th place (10.2%).
6th place was DAY6 (8.5%), 7th place was BLACKPINK (8.0%), 8th place was ROSÉ (7.7%), 9th place was Lim Young-woong (5.4%), and 10th place was Lee Moo-jin (3.9%).
Among those over 40, Lim Young-woong has been in first place for five consecutive years up to this year. Having debuted in 2016, he became the final winner of TV Chosun's audition program 'Mr. Trot' in 2020, presenting appealing songs every time. Since then, he has established himself as the star who receives the most attention in performances, broadcasts, and advertisements, and this year, he also released a new song, 'Warmth'.
Singer of the Year for those over 40: Lee Chan-won (12.2%) in 2nd place, Jang Yoon-jeong (11.8%) in 3rd place, Young Tak (10.0%) in 4th place, and Na Hoon-a (8.1%) in 5th place. Jin Sung (7.8%) in 6th place, IU (6.4%) in 7th place, Song Ga-in (5.8%) in 8th place, Jang Min-ho (4.6%) in 9th place, and Park Seo-jin (4.2%) in 10th place.
In addition, in a survey on the most popular song titles released or sung this year, Rosé and Mars' "Apartment" (9.8%) was chosen as the best song of the year for those in their 30s and younger, and Lim Young-woong's "Love Always Runs Away" (5.9%) was chosen as the best song of the year for those in their 40s and older.
Among those under 30, the songs that made the top 10 besides 'Apartment' are 'Supernova' (espa, 7.2%), 'How Sweet' (New Jeans, 5.9%), 'HEYA' (Ibe, 5.3%), 'Happy' (Day6, 4.7%), 'Night Letter' (IU, 4.3%), 'Hype Boy' (New Jeans, 4.1%), 'Night Yanggaeng' (Bibi, 3.7%), 'Love Wins All' (IU, 2.7%), and 'Supernatural' (New Jeans, 2.5%).
For those in their 40s and older, the songs that made the top 10 besides “Love Always Runs Away” are “Warmth” (Lim Young-woong, 5.5%), “At Andong Station” (Jinseong, 3.9%), “Now Trust Me Only” (Lim Young-woong), “A Glass of Makgeolli” (Young Tak) (all 3.8%), “First Marriage” (Jang Yoon-jeong, 3.3%), “A Grain of Sand” (3.1%), “Purple Postcard” (2.8%, all Lim Young-woong), “A Romance in Time”, “Sky Travel” (Lee Chan-won), and “My Love Like the Stars” (Lim Young-woong) (all 2.7%).
